Not the quiet type

This past week we’ve discussed the existence of God, looked at his character, attributes, and some basic traits of his nature. We have concluded that He is basically good and loving. His essential nature is love. He is affectionate and expresses his love through relationships.

God didn’t create us to say good-bye and good luck as He went merrily on his way through the universe. Just the opposite is true. Throughout history, God has been trying to reveal Himself to us for the purpose of relationship. He desires an intimate relationship with his creation. He didn’t leave us on our own to figure it all out. He is seen as a loving, guiding, teaching, adorable dad.

I have three boys that I talk to about every other day even though they have not lived with me for about 7 years now. We still seek communication because of the way they were raised. In turn, they talk all the time (once a day) to each other even though one is in Texas, the other here in Ohio and one in Indiana. Communication is the foundation of any relationship. Proximity, talking, sharing things and touch are all part of the equation.

We have all heard about fathers who never have any contact with their children. For an entire life time, the children have developmental problems due to the lack of contact with their father. A loving father communicates and is totally involved in the life of his children.

If God were that kind of father and didn’t reach out to communicate with us, our conclusion would be that He just doesn’t care. We have learned that just the opposite is true. 1 John 3:1 says “How great is the love that the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called the children of God! And that is what we are”. God communicates with us through his Word (the Bible), His Spirit, and the giving of His Son.

The Bible is God’s gift to us. It is the main source of our communication with Him and it reveals Him to us in a variety of ways.

2 Timothy 3:16 says “All scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting, and training in righteousness.” Scripture comes from the heart and mind of God in terms that we can understand and figure out.

God’s word is essential to our lives. The Apostle Paul tells us “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly” Colossians 3:16

Jesus quoted the Old Testament Scriptures saying “Man does not live by bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of God” Matthew 4:4

The Bible tells us the Word of God is powerful. Hebrews 4:12 says “For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword…”

If we believe that God exists and that he is essentially good and loving, it would make sense that he would make himself know to us. It is also easy to understand why His words are so powerful and life-changing. He is God!

Questions: Is this the real Word of God? How can I trust the accuracy of the Bible? We will look at these questions this week. Stay tuned!!!!!!

How has God shown His love to us and others? In what other ways has he communicated to you?
