Most of us, like the cosmonaut, look out into the vastness of space and wonder “God, are you really out there?” We question God’s existence at some of the most traumatic times in our life. When the judge orders the divorce to be final, the casket gapes at all we call belief, the doctors tell us that they did all they could do or possibly when the boss walks in and says they no longer need you and you could hardly make ends meet the way it was. Is there really a God out there? The search for God has been on going for many years. Archeologists have unearthed relics of worship from civilizations long gone by that were used in search of God.

Many people around the world continue to seek that higher power. All religions around the world believe in some higher power. They all bow to a cosmic someone. God does not call us to blind faith because within all of us is a sense of eternity but he does call us to a reasonable faith that begs the questions, Can I know you? Can I trust you? Can you help me? Listen to what the wisdom of Solomon says about the subject “He (God) has also set eternity in the hearts of men; yet they cannot fathom what God has done from beginning to end” Ecclesiastes 3:11

When I feel overwhelmed by life, God sends me a wonderful morsel of hope to sustain me. I attended the Leadership Retreat and found it more difficult than I could imagine to be around 3 meals and snacks I could not even begin to think about eating. (I was recently diagnosed with Celiac and am adjusting to maintaining a gluten free lifestyle) During lunch, I escaped upstairs at the "Rench Retreat Center" to get away from all the forbidden foods. I selected one door and went inside to have a good cry...there was my canopy bed from when I was a little girl! I had given it to Terry and Rollie's grand daughter and there it was! I sat on that bed and remembered the many times I had cuddled up, been tucked in, prayed with, and dreamed in that very bed since I was four years old...life was less complicated them. As I sat there crying, a little kitty crawled out from under the bed and came to comfort me. Her big blue eyes stared up with concern. She nestled in my lap and gave me strength until I was able to pull myself together. Are you out there God? Yes, absolutely! He is one prayer away, just waiting to be invited into my agenda and be aware of His compassionate presence. I challenge you to keep your eyes and heart open this week for Him.
